The vicinity of Hindhead has a number of interesting walks; and since the (in)famous A3 tunnel, a fair bit of walking land has been returned to nature. In time, what is already a great view will simply be better. What you see in these images is the former single-carriageway section of the A3 past Hindhead going north. I came across the view as I was walking past the sailor’s stone.
The stone itself is a memorial to an unknown sailor murdered in the area in the late 18th century for whatever money he carried. The walk would later take me onto the former A3 itself and then up the Greensand way.
Both images were taken handheld with my 30D and 17-40mm lens at its widest. Processing involved the usual selective curves for contrast adjustment, and slight cropping on the vertically-oriented image.
