Continuing with the series from our visit to the lakes earlier this year, I’m finally sharing the wide view of Castlerigg Stone Circle that I mentioned a few months ago. It took me while to get the photo I had in mind, due to the number of tourists there. Not that it involved much effort. First I composed ignoring all the people in the shot, I set up filters and checked for exposure, and once I was happy I just waited for that moment when no-one was visible.
I like the result, though I think it will only find justice when printed large. In processing, I played a lot with different crops. A wider aspect ratio also works, but I felt it lost something with less sky in the frame. In this final version, there is a sense of space and tranquillity that one would otherwise not get.
