Leap Over the Bull

Leap Over the Bull (5171)
Leap Over the Bull. (Click on the photo for added detail.)

Taking a few minutes today for a(n unusual) weekend post; I planned to write something yesterday but never got the time. It’s another photo from the excellent Archaeological Museum of Heraklion and its Minoan collection. The Minoans clearly had a thing for bulls, with representations appearing everywhere in the collection. This particular artefact represents an athlete jumping over a bull – the same scene can also be found in frescoes in the same museum, and it must have been quite a scene in the open spaces of Knossos when this event was taking place. At least, I like to think that it did happen.
