Tfiefa Komuni

Tfiefa Komuni. (Click on the photo for added detail.)

I’m finally down to the last flower photo from a very productive outing in Lapsi in late winter. This one is known locally as the Tfiefa Komuni (Sonchus oleraceus), in English it’s the common sow thistle. I used to think this was some type of dandelion; while it’s from the same family (Asteraceae) it’s a completely different genus.

And with this I thought I’d also experiment with adding a short audio clip to show how the name is pronounced. Not that I’m an expert on names, but I am a native Maltese speaker. If at least one person finds this helpful, it will have served its purpose.

    • Thanks Nick! Your guess may be closer than you think… Strange as it may sound, there’s dialects even on this tiny island 😃
