I did not get around to writing my usual throwback blog post yesterday, so instead I’m taking a few minutes on this Good Friday to share a photo of the chapel at Binġemma, from a walk I did there two years ago. The chapel is dedicated to Our Lady, in the title Hodegitria, usually translated as Our Lady of the Way (in Maltese: Madonna tat-Triq). Perhaps not many realise that the title refers to the depiction of Our Lady with the child Jesus in her arms, and (significantly) pointing towards Him with her right hand. The “way” of course, refers to Jesus, who is quoted in John 14:6 as saying to Thomas: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life”.
