Madonna tal-Abbandunati

This week’s throwback photo takes us back about a year. I was in Xemxija for the Malta International Airshow, obviously with my long telephoto lens fitted. On the opposite side of the inlet is Wardija hill, and almost at the top of this one can find the old chapel known as Il-Madonna tal-Abbandunati. Like other chapels in Wardija this dates back to the Knights era, … Continue reading Madonna tal-Abbandunati

I’m starting this week with a very simple photo, from an outing a few weeks ago to photograph the full moon rising from Tigné point, Sliema. Just before packing up, with the 1.4x teleconverter still fitted on the 150-600mm lens, I pointed the camera in the direction of the moon itself. I also enabled the 1.6x crop factor on the camera itself (intended to allow … Continue reading Luna

Moonrise Over Breakwater Lighthouse

Last week I spent some time editing the photos from the photography session down in Sliema earlier this month. The whole idea behind the session was to photograph the full moon rising behind the Grand Harbour breakwater and its lighthouse. I have a series of photos of this event, starting from just after sunset, until well into nautical twilight. My favourite photos were the ones … Continue reading Moonrise Over Breakwater Lighthouse

Moonrise Over Delimara Lighthouses

A very pleasant highlight last week involved Wednesday’s full moon, which also happened to be at perigee this month. This event had been popping up on my news feeds recently, so I checked out the conditions on my usual photography and astronomy planning apps. Seeing that the conditions were rather ideal, and the weather being what it is this time of year, I figured we’d … Continue reading Moonrise Over Delimara Lighthouses

I’m trying my best this week to get my schedule back on track. And that includes my blogging. While my more recent photos are still in my editing pile, I thought I’d share something from a few weeks ago, an end-of-the-year walk starting from Kunċizzjoni. As things worked out, by the end of my walk, the sun was almost setting and the light was glorious, … Continue reading Mosta

Swiss Air Force PC-7 TEAM

The penultimate set from this year’s Malta International Airshow shows the Swiss Air Force PC-7 TEAM, an aerobatic team of the Swiss Air Force, based on the Pilatus PC-7 Turbo Trainer aircraft. These were much easier to track, as of course the turboprop engine doesn’t really compare with a jet engine. Personally, I find propeller aircraft to be much nicer than jets. But then I … Continue reading Swiss Air Force PC-7 TEAM

Rafale C

For a few weeks I’ll be continuing with photos from the Malta International Airshow, held in early autumn this year. I’m sure that for many aircraft enthusiasts and airshow visitors, the highlights tend to be the jet fighters. While their planned function is at best a sobering reality, there can be no doubt about the engineering ingenuity involved in their design and production. I recall … Continue reading Rafale C

It’s getting to a point where the recent photos I’m sharing are not too far removed from the throwback ones. Mostly, of course, this is due to the inevitable fact that I tend to shoot much less over summer. And with the situation as it is, I haven’t been travelling either. Well, perhaps the former is not entirely true, but the photos I’ve taken recently … Continue reading Luna
